We recently released Rails version 2.2.2. We are aware that version 2.3 is now available, so look for that version to be ready for release in the not so distant future.

        

Because of popular demand we have added an option to migrate your Windows hosting account from IIS 6 to IIS 7. This button can be found in 'IIS Settings' under 'Content' in the Hosting Control Center. Please note the following before migrating.

-This process requires you to backup your database(s), remove manually and then restore after the upgrade.
- Once your account is configured with IIS 7, you cannot downgrade to IIS 6.

If you're looking to manage your extensions or redirects without messing with your .htaccess file, look no further. We recently added two features to the Hosting Control Center that help to automate this process. In both cases, if an .htaccess file already exists, these managers will simply add the new details to the existing file.


The Extension Manager
Edit the current extensions in your account or create your own custom extensions. It allows users to specify which application (PHP, for instance) handles certain file extensions (.php5, for instance).  Located under 'Settings' in the Hosting Control Center for more details see the following help article.

How do I change the default program for a file type in my hosting account?


Site Redirects Manager

Now you can send your visitors to a different destination within your site or to a completely new web address. Located under 'Content' in the Hosting Control Center, the Site Redirects Manager is the place to create, modify and delete domain redirects. They can be 301(permanent) or 302 (temporary). Lets take a look at some common redirect scenarios.

Example 1: Redirect All Domains

In this example, any domain that is pointing to this hosting account, regardless of its path, will be redirected to http://externaldomain.org.  In most cases, there will be no need to specify a path.

Example 2:Redirect to a Blog

In this example, the customer wants to redirect their domain http://example.org to their blog at http://example.org/blog.  This redirect will be very common and will cause a redirect loop if you select any content-type other than “No Redirect”.   When working properly, if the browser tries to go to http://example.org, it will be redirected to http://example.org/blog.

 

Example 3: Specifying a Path

If you have created a blog with Wordpress and you want people who go to your Joomla site to be redirected to your new blog site, then you may need to specify a path.  The example below will redirect http://example.org/joomla to http://example.org/wordpress.  In this case you may want to redirect the contents since there is no risk of a redirect loop.

We've updated phpMyAdmin to be even faster, exponentially faster, which saves you more time.  The database summary pages use a new algorithm that's 100 times faster than before!  We have more phpMyAdmin updates on the horizon, stay tuned.

Direct Database Access
You now have access to remotely manage your hosting account databases with external tools. For those looking to use this new feature, the 'Allow Direct Database Access' option will need to be enabled upon set up.

In order to provide the best experience, customers using direct database access are required to be located in our newest hosting environment.  For our existing customers, we're in the process of creating a mechanism for you to have your account moved to the new environment.  If you have databases, you may choose to use the existing MySQL/SQL Server backup tool to save your content before removing that database and enabling direct database access.

Some of you may have noticed the latest and greatest feature we began offering to our Linux shared hosting customers. SSH, or Secure Shell, is a program that you can use to log in to another computer over a network. In this way you can execute commands on a remote machine and then move files from one machine to another.

Where do I find this new feature?
All paid accounts will find SSH under 'Settings' in the Hosting Control Center.
