Now Available: Cron for Shared Hosting

The Cron Manager is a graphical interface to the recently added support for Cron jobs in Linux Shared Hosting. Found in the Hosting Control Center under content, Cron is a standard Linux feature that allows for the scheduling of scripts to be run unattended. These tasks are typically called "Cron Jobs" and are simply commands scheduled to run at a specified frequency. You can schedule tasks every week, two weeks, every year or anywhere in between with the same format.

What would you use the Cron Manager to schedule?
-Automated site/database backups.
-Retrieve external feeds/news periodically.
-Auto-email latest orders from online store.
-Email yourself results of scheduled tasks.
-Any kind of periodic task that can be run unattended.

WOOT!! It's about time... Thanks GD, I was about to move my hosting because this feature was not available.

This has been one of the most critical features missing with the hosting accounts.

Next thing is access to raw log data... hint hint

Great addition, this was a consideration in moving here. One idea would be a 'run once, now' option for debugging scripts.

Glad to hear you we were able to implement this in time for you to move here!
I have already forwarded your request on to our Cron development team to consider for a future release.
      Appreciate it!

A support article with info like pathnames to the right sqldump command for database backup would be nice! Then an automated database dump can be done, and of course I can schedule FTP retrieval of the resulting file on my PC, for full automated backup of my database! Very nice

Too bad it only allows you to schedule twice an hour or less... I need it to run a little more frequent than every 30 minutes. Evey 5 minutes would be huge!

No doubt. This limit seems arbitrary silly, given that page request will eat *far* more resources.

We have talked about offering scheduled tasks, but at this time we have no immediate plans for implementation.

I see. Well, it'll be great if you can implement schedule task for windows hosting as your plan is already very attractive. I belief many ppl look forward to using it, esp those running asp.net apps.
