Learning More About Hosting: Getting Started with Joomla!

What is Joomla! and how do I begin using it?
Joomla! is an Open Source Content Management System that we provide free to all of our customers in
Hosting Connection. With Joomla! you can create a simple website or one that is more complex. Many
new users ask how they get started. If you already have a hosting account, you can begin by installing
your application using these articles.

Installing Hosting Quick-Install Applications
Can I install an application in the root directory of my hosting account?

Once the application has been installed you will receive an email notification, similar to the one below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Customer,

Joomla 1.5.x has been successfully installed on your hosting account. To launch this application, click on
the URL below or copy and paste it into your browser window:

http://mydomainname.com/

Your newly-installed application can also be launched through the Value Application Manager. It resides
on the home page under the "My Applications" panel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do I do now?
Once you have copied and pasted the URL in to a browser, a *Joomla! web page will appear (all of this
content can be removed once you access the administrator control panel). On the left side of the screen
you will see the following menus bordered in blue.

Main Menu
·    Home
·    Joomla! Overview
·    Joomla! License
·    More about Joomla!
·    FAQ
·    The News
·    Web Links
·    News Feeds

Resources

I install Joomla from GoDaddy and I pretend to work from there. Now all went smooth, Backend acces from www.websitename.com/joomla/admin, ok. Now here's the problem: how to access from URL www.mywebsite.com ?
Everytime I want so, appear an FTP advice "page not found".
According to this I have to transfer via FTP from my root directory in GoDaddy hosting to... where ? I mean, do I have to transfer from GoDaddy to GoDaddy ?
If anybody have a clue, thanks in advance.

Here are the problems that we are encountering.
We bought a template and deployed in Joomla at godaddy hosted server. The website started giving problem. We resolved all the problems except the website aborts somtimes in IE8 and we don't the solution, it seems to be hosting issue. We tried the orginal template in godaddy hosted server while website being live and the orginal template worked fine (it didn't work in previewdns mode). The template writer also mentioned that there is some problem in previewdns mode but don't what. Please let me know if anybody has any idea. Thanks.

We can take a look. In the meantime, you can make your site live and these issues should clear up. Here's how: You'll need to modify your DNS record. You can update it through the Account Summary section of the Hosting Control Center. Next to Primary Domain DNS, click View, and then click Make this site live.
